UNDERSTANDING
WHAT IS NATURAL FRAGRANCE?
In a modern world of smoke and mirrors, it can be challenging to make sense of what you are putting on your body. If a product claims to be natural, is it really? Potentially not, is the real answer — which is wilfully misleading, and makes the truth difficult for a consumer to decipher.
Unfortunately there are no firm laws in the beauty industry around what can be advertised as “natural” — including fragrance. Many brands use *mostly* natural ingredients - maybe even 97% - but the small percentage of non-natural ingredients can ultimately be the most harmful. What is the point of using a “natural” product when it still has the harmful chemicals you are trying to avoid?

WHAT MAKES A PRODUCT NATURAL?
1. All ingredients are sourced from nature or started their life as a plant.
2. Contains zero petrochemicals (ingredients derived from petroleum).
3. No synthetic or artificial ingredients, including colouring, preservatives or fixatives.
It is challenging to create a fragrance using 100% natural ingredients, which is why not many fragrance brands do it. The main challenges being lasting-power, batch consistency and preservation — issues that many companies turn to synthetic ingredients to solve.
At Abel we value integrity and transparency. We are committed to using only 100% natural ingredients in our fragrances, with no shortcuts or misleading language. Every single one of our ingredients started its life as a plant, and our scents contain zero petrochemicals.

WHY CHOOSE NATURAL FRAGRANCE?
1. HEALTH — everything you spray on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream. Synthetic ingredients can have adverse effects on many aspects of your health.
2. ENVIRONMENT — when perfume is washed off your skin it goes into waterways; when it’s sprayed in the air it settles in nature. Synthetic fragrance spreads harmful chemicals through the environment.
3. ALLERGIES — the body is more inclined to accept particles that come from nature, and react adversely to chemicals that don’t. Nature rejects synthetics.
4. POSITIVE CHANGE — the more consumers prioritise using 100% natural products, the more pressure is put on companies to offer genuinely natural alternatives.
