ABEL MUSINGS

A memoir based on the desire for a home of one’s own, an experimental science fiction based in a future where AI reigns supreme — see a selection of what’s been memorable and filled our cups this month.

WE'RE WATCHING —

The recently released French film, The Beast, starring actress Lea Seydoux. An experimental science fiction/romance, set in a future where AI has taken over and human emotion is considered a weakness, affecting an individuals ability to work efficiently. In an attempt to rid their future selves of unproductive emotion, people are encouraged to dive into past lives to purify past trauma. Beautiful, uneasy and incredibly original.

WE'RE READING —

Real Estate by Deborah Levy — a memoir based on the authors own desire to own real estate, and the universal need to create a home of ones own. So relatable and heartfelt, written with both humour and sincerity.

WE'RE LOOKING AT —

The portrait paintings of American artist Alice Neel. A great American painter of the twentieth century and a pioneer among women artists, her portraits of friends, family, lovers and strangers are gestural, instinctive and deeply imbued with the character of each.

WE'RE USING —

The intricately handmade globe cushions by New Zealand brand KLAY. The inner of each cushion is lovingly made from layers of recycled wool fibre, and the covers from cotton and velvet. An artful object for your couch or bed, and incredibly comfortable to prop yourself up with.
