THE POEM: MIAMI SPLIT
WRITTEN & PERFORMED BY SIENNA KING,
A SPOKEN WORD ARTIST
"Miami Split" By Sienna King
Euphonious green splits my ears in two.
In darkness, I see the laughter shining through.
Your heartbeats braid – dawn daze with setting sunz.
Yellow smiles surround a face –
Mmm... what a beautiful face in the morning.
Sweet notes of courage and rage
rising through scent, center stage.
I pace. I pace...
To trace the last time, I kissed that
Oh... how I missed that.
Heavens candle... cupped in a bosom of joy,
Melting under its own scorching heat.
A radical touch... a lingering sigh,
a burnt last word still breathing its aroma.
Tension keeps time –
Clean heart,
Complex minds,
Beautifully imperfect.
Never anticipate the mornings
Forever challenge the daybreak
Always bloom between with is and what defies
ABOUT THE POEM
Some things resist the usual vocabulary. Miami Split was one of them. We felt it needed a way to share it that held its contradictions. The lightness and the darkness, the boldness and the depth, and find language equal to them.
So we invited poet Sienna King to find her own. What she came back with brought the room to tears, twice: first at our London launch, then at Dover Street Market Paris.
"The idea was never to blend everything into harmony, but to let each material hold its shape. The interest comes from the tension between them." — Isaac Sinclair, Master Perfumer
