Natural perfume is renown for being less long-lasting than its synthetic counterparts. This is because synthetic fragrances contain harmful fixatives – petrochemicals that don’t easily biodegrade. Petrochemicals are ingredients that are derived from petroleum — the very opposite of the natural world — and this is why they generally last longer. Nature rejects synthetics.
In the past, longevity has been a goalpost difficult to reach. With new developments in biotechnology however, we are able to incorporate ingredients previously unavailable for the natural fragrance world.

Biotech ingredients are fragrance notes produced using living organisms (plant sugars, bacteria, fungi and yeasts) in a laboratory setting, using a fermentation process — similar to the process of adding yeasts to grapes to ferment into wine. The resulting ingredient is completely biodegradable and composed of natural cells.
The laboratory setting allows ingredients to be cultured in a controlled environment — resulting in a more stable, consistent and precise scent note, and ultimately a longer lasting fragrance.
